HW 2/3
My definition of "multimodality" is a way to create meanings for words
that would have different meanings in different context, and how people
use them to convey their thoughts. For example, in the music genre "rap"
( rhyme and poetry), rappers like Kendrick Lamar and J. Cole use
multimodality to get their message across. In "Keisha's Song" by
Kendrick Lamar, he says "fancy girls on long beach boulevard". Because
he adds the part "on long beach boulevard", Lamar is referencing the
"fancy girls" as prostitutes. In society, multimodality plays an
important role because it shows how relationships are really conveyed,
which in turn helps us understand its components, whether race, gender
or social class plays a role. It helps us understand the relationship
between us, language, and the media and how it stands. In my day-to-day
life, multimodality plays a big role because it shows me the status quo
of the world I'm in, what's my place in society and what I should be
doing in my family.
